Replacing teeth

Dental bridges

A fixed way to replace a missing tooth, held in place by the teeth on either side of the gap.

What it is

A bridge is an artificial tooth fixed to the neighbouring tooth or teeth, so it doesn't come out.

The teeth either side of the space are prepared to support it.

Because a bridge is the same size and shape as natural teeth, many people find it feels more natural than a denture.

Who it's for

People missing one tooth, or a small number of teeth, with healthy and strong teeth next to the gap.

What to expect

  1. Your dentist checks the supporting teeth and explains the options, including implants and dentures.
  2. The supporting teeth are prepared and impressions taken. A laboratory makes the bridge, which is fitted at a second visit.
