Joining Currie Dental Care
Who we're taking on right now, what happens at your first visit, and how NHS and private care differ.
Until further notice, we can only take on new NHS patients who are children, and new adult patients on a private basis or a dental plan. We're not currently able to register new adult NHS patients.
Can I join?
Children, on the NHS
NHS dental treatment is free for everyone under 26 in Scotland, and we take part in the Childsmile programme. Children's dentistry.
Adults, privately or on a plan
Pay as you go, or spread the cost with a dental plan from £18 a month.
Adults, on the NHS
We're not able to register new adult NHS patients at the moment. NHS inform lists other dental practices (opens in a new tab).
What to expect
- We call you. Once you've registered your interest, we'll phone to talk things through and book your first appointment.
- Your health and history. We'll ask about your medical and social history. It helps us look after you safely, it affects how treatment may need to be adjusted, and it's a legal requirement.
- A full examination. Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and mouth, including an oral cancer screening, with x-rays only if they're needed.
- A clear plan. If you need treatment, we'll explain the options and costs. Private patients get a full written estimate before anything starts.
Nervous? Tell us when we call, and we'll plan your visit around you. How we help nervous patients.
The difference, simply
NHS
- Charges are set by the Scottish Government
- Examinations are free for everyone in Scotland
- Free treatment for under-26s and some other groups
- Rules on which treatments are available, and how often
Private
- More time with your dentist
- Materials and techniques not available on the NHS
- Cosmetic treatment, implants and white fillings in back teeth
- Clear prices, and a written estimate before treatment

Questions people ask
Can I register as an adult NHS patient?
Not at the moment. Until further notice we can only take on new NHS patients who are children, and new adult patients on a private basis or a dental plan. If that changes, we'll update this page.
Is registration complete when I send the form?
No. The form tells us you'd like to join. We'll call you, take some further details, and book your first examination. Registration is complete once you've had an examination with one of our dentists.
Why don't you ask for my medical history online?
Your medical history matters, but it's personal, so we take it in person at your first appointment rather than through a website form.
How much does a first visit cost?
A private new patient examination is £60. NHS examinations are free for everyone in Scotland. X-rays, if needed, are charged separately for private patients (from £9).
Any questions before you join?
