NHS dental charges in Scotland
NHS fees are set by the Scottish Government. The charges are complex and vary from patient to patient, depending on the treatment needed.
- Everyone in Scotland is entitled to free NHS dental examinations, including review examinations.
- If you pay for NHS treatment, you pay 80% of the cost, up to a maximum of £384 for a course of treatment.

Free NHS dental treatment
According to NHS inform, NHS dental treatment is free for:
- Everyone aged under 26
- People who are pregnant or have given birth in the last 12 months
- People with a certificate of exemption from charges because of their income or because they receive certain benefits
If you don't qualify but find NHS charges hard to pay, you may get help through the NHS Low Income Scheme. Help with health costs (NHS inform) (opens in a new tab).
Cancellations
Please give us at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel, or a charge may apply. This includes patients who are exempt from NHS charges. Our cancellation policy.
