Bite guards and sports mouthguards

Custom-made guards to protect teeth from grinding at night, or from knocks during sport.

What it is

People who grind their teeth (bruxism) can have worn teeth, and may get jaw joint pain, headaches or muscle pain. A bite guard is commonly provided to help ease these symptoms.

There are several types of bite guard. Your dentist will advise which is right for you.

A sports mouthguard is made from a simple impression of your teeth, to help protect your mouth from injury during sport.

Who it's for

Anyone who grinds or clenches their teeth, and anyone who plays contact sports such as rugby, hockey or boxing.

What to expect

  1. Your dentist checks your teeth and bite, takes an impression, and fits the finished guard at a second visit.
